How to Add PayPal Donate Button


If you are seeking donations from your website visitors, PayPal donation buttons come handy. It can be used to get paid in any currency using PayPal account or credit cards. How do you get this button for your website?

  1. Register with PayPal for a Premium account (or a Business account in case of a company)
  2. Log in to your account
  3. Click on the “Merchant Services” tab
  4. Look for the “Donations” link in the menu list (present on the left sidebar)
  5. Customize your donation button and “Create a button”
  6. Copy the button code and paste it on your website or blog

Can’t find the Donate button option in PayPal?

If you are not able to find the option for creating donation button that’s because you have an Individual account which enables you to send and receive payments, but doesn’t allow to sell products or services or seek donations. Individual account users need to upgrade to Premium account for being able to use Donations button.

Here’s how to upgrade to a Premier or Business account:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click Upgrade Account in the Enhance Your Account box.
  3. Click Upgrade Now.
  4. Choose Business or Premier account.
  5. For a Business account, fill in your business information.
  6. Done!

Can’t find Donate button option even in Premier account? This option might not be available in your country, as is the case for Indian PayPal users. This is because of local laws and regulations. Indian accounts cannot receive personal payments, and donations are considered personal payments. In such case, you can choose other buttons.

Add Donate button in Blogger blog

  1. Log in to your Blogger or WordPress blog.
  2. In Blogger, click on the “Design” link below the name of your blog.
  3. In the Page Elements tab, click  on “Add a gadget” in the desired place and add an HTML/Javascript box.
  4. Paste the code in the main box, and give a title if desired.
  5. Save the widget.
  6. Move the widget to desired location and then save the template.
  7. If you want to add donate button in any post or page, select the “HTML View” while creating or editing the page and paste the code at the desired place.
  8. Save the post or page.

Add Donate button in WordPress blog

  1. Log in to your WordPress account.
  2. Click on Appearance and then Widgets.
  3. Now add a “Text” widget to the desired sidebar by dragging and dropping the widget over it. Paste the button code in the main box and give a title if desired.
  4. Save.
  5. If you want to add the button in any post or page, open the edit or write panel and paste the code in the “HTML” view.
  6. Save the post or page.
