Six Effective Internal Linking Strategies For Your Blog

Internal linking is one of the best ways you can retain visitors in your blog and let your pages rank higher in the search engine. Here are 6 effective internal linking strategies that you should follow on your blog.

1. Make sure you link related posts

When you write posts on related topics, you can interlink them so that readers going through one topic can easily find additional content on related issues and stay on your blog longer. To interlink related topics, you can create a hyperlink on one or two phrases within your content. The anchor text of the hyperlink should preferably be the keyword of the page you link to. Multiple interlinks with anchor texts as the keywords help you increase the ranking of your blog posts with those keywords.

If you want to link a post to a few pages, it’s best to give one or two links within the content and the rest can be included in a “Related References” section at the end of your blog post. You can manually add links to related pages, or else use the Related Posts Plugin available with WordPress.

2. Add links in the sidebar

Find out the most viewed posts/pages and add links to those pages in the sidebar of your blog. You can also add links to the most recent posts in the sidebar. This will help readers find out the latest and the most popular posts with ease. So, you can expect your page views to increase.

3. You can do a monthly summary of your posts

If you don’t have links to recent posts in your sidebar, you can make a short post at the end of each month. This post should include links to some of the important topics you’ve covered the entire month. A brief description should come along with each link thereby stating what is covered in that post.

4. Add links in the footer

Include links to valuable posts or sections of your blog in the footer. It’s quite obvious for anyone reading your entire post to scroll down and look for something more. So, useful links in the footer can make them stay on your blog longer. This will help improve the user experience in your blog.

5. Create a site map for your blog

A sitemap helps your readers and search engines find their way around your blog. Moreover, it increases the number of internal links to the important sections/pages.

6. Create an FAQ page

You can create an FAQ page and post answers to some of the common questions your readers may have. Frame the answers in 2-3 lines and give links to related posts, which already have the detailed answers to those questions. When you link to related posts, make sure you include the keyword or the key phrase in the anchor text. This will help the post or page rank higher in the search results with that key phrase.

Internal linking makes your blog user-friendly, as visitors find it easy to navigate from one page to another. Moreover, it helps improve the page rank (PR) of a low PR page, as it can get backlinks from several high PR pages in your blog. This will help improve the visibility of low PR pages in the search engines and get your blog more traffic as well.
