Switched to Full Text Feeds Again!

Due to multiple requests for a full text feeds, Quick Online Tips is back to full feeds. Full feed advocates were surprised when this blog crossed 10000 feed readers with a partial feed, but I guess it worked for us. I have tried full feeds before for a month, but the content scrapping is difficult to control. Lets see how it works out this time.

Things were a little different this time when I changed to full text feed. Even though I selected Full text in my wordpress reading options, the feed still showed excerpts! Then I remembered how things were different in WordPress 2.1

Since I use the Evermore and Less wordpress plugins to create expandable post summaries (posts excerpts) in WordPress, the new version of WordPress 2.1 cuts the post when it encounters a <!more> tag due to these plugins. So I needed to activate a wordpress plugin called Full Text Feed that prevents WordPress 2.1+ from adding a more link to the website feed. That fixed the issue.

Further I decided to add a copyright notice at the bottom of each post, with a link back to my site. This can easily be done by editing the wp-rss2.php file in your wordpress server installation using any text editor. Feed Copyrighter Plugin can automatically add copyright message to your RSS / ATOM feeds easily, if editing your rss files is too technical for you.

This helps to deter spam blogs and content scrappers from illegally misusing your content. More importantly, if they repost the content, you get a pingback, and Technorati tracks it too, so you know who the culprit is. Of course there are many ways to report spam blogs if they violate your terms.

So for all those people who hated our partial feeds, you can grab full text feed right now. Existing subscribers should be seeing this full article. Thanks for subscribing and spending time reading our content.
